There are 13 National Treasure three-story pagodas nationwide (12 temples. Taima-dera has two National Treasure pagodas, the East and West Pagodas). Famous pagodas from various eras are gathered, from the Hoki-ji Pagoda of the Asuka period to the Kosho-ji Pagoda of the Muromachi period. They are organized from north to south.

Anraku-ji in Ueda City, Nagano Prefecture. It is one of the 13 National Treasure three-story pagodas (12 temples) nationwide. It is a precious pagoda, the only existing octagonal three-story pagoda from before the early modern period.

Daiho-ji

Myotsu-ji in Obama City, Fukui Prefecture. One of the National Treasure three-story pagodas. The three-story pagoda stands with the National Treasure main hall in the mountains of Wakasa.

Saiho-ji in Kora Town, Shiga Prefecture. One of the National Treasure three-story pagodas. It is one of the Koto Sanzan, and its Kamakura period three-story pagoda still exists.

Joraku-ji in Konan City, Shiga Prefecture. One of the National Treasure three-story pagodas. It is one of the Konan Sanzan (Nishidera), and the three-story pagoda, along with the main hall, is a National Treasure.

Joruri-ji Temple

Joruri-ji in Kizugawa City, Kyoto Prefecture. One of the National Treasure three-story pagodas. Known for its nine Amida Buddhas and Pure Land garden, the平安 period three-story pagoda stands here.

Hoki-ji

Hoki-ji in Ikaruga Town, Nara Prefecture. One of the National Treasure three-story pagodas. It is the oldest existing three-story pagoda, built around 706, and is a World Cultural Heritage site along with Horyu-ji.

Yakushi-ji

Yakushi-ji in Nara City, Nara Prefecture. One of the National Treasure three-story pagodas (East Pagoda). A masterpiece of the Hakuho period with a 'mokoshi' (pent roof) on each story, also called 'frozen music'.

Kofuku-ji in Nara City, Nara Prefecture. One of the National Treasure three-story pagodas. Separate from the National Treasure five-story pagoda, there is an elegant three-story pagoda rebuilt in the Kamakura period.

Taima-ji

Taima-ji in Katsuragi City, Nara Prefecture. It is a National Treasure three-story pagoda, with both the East and West Pagodas being National Treasures (2 out of 13 total). It is the only example where both pagodas remain from their original construction.

Jogen-ji in Kasai City, Hyogo Prefecture. One of the National Treasure three-story pagodas. The Kamakura period three-story pagoda stands on the mountainside and is also a pilgrimage site for the Saigoku 33 Kannon.

Kosho-ji

Kosho-ji in Onomichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture. One of the National Treasure three-story pagodas. A vermilion-lacquered three-story pagoda from the Muromachi period stands on Ikuchi Island.
