四国八十八ヶ所めぐり(お遍路)
The "Ohenro" is a pilgrimage to visit 88 sacred sites associated with Kobo Daishi (Kukai) while traveling around Shikoku. It covers the four prefectures of Tokushima (Hoshin-dojo, temples 1-23), Kochi (Shugyo-dojo, temples 24-39), Ehime (Bodai-dojo, temples 40-65), and Kagawa (Nehan-dojo, temples 66-88), with a total length of approximately 1,200 km. It is common to start at the first temple, Ryozen-ji, and conclude at the 88th temple, Okubo-ji, but the order of visiting is flexible, including sequential, reverse, or segmented approaches. At each temple, you can pay respects to the principal image and Kobo Daishi, and receive a Noken (Goshuin stamp). Some temples, such as Shoryu-ji, Tairyu-ji, and Yokomine-ji, are known as difficult mountain paths called "Henro Koroshi" (pilgrim crushers). You can record your pilgrimage of the 88 temples with a map and check-ins. Please confirm the Noken procedures and reception hours with each temple and temple association.
