National Health Hot Spring Resort Designated by the Ministry of the Environment: A Tour of Famous Hot Springs
National Health Hot Spring Resorts are designated by the Minister of the Environment based on the Hot Springs Act as 'hot spring resorts where the effects of hot spring use can be fully expected and which are utilized as healthy resort areas.' Starting with three locations in 1954 (Shikatsuyun, Nikko Yumoto, and Shima), as of October 2022, 79 locations nationwide have been designated. This list compiles famous hot springs from across the country, categorized by region: Hokkaido, Tohoku, Kanto, Chubu, Kinki, Chugoku, Shikoku, and Kyushu/Okinawa.
